The JSA Virtual Roundtable, “Digital Infrastructure Trends, Innovations, New Markets & More: What Will Define 2025?” was recently held on November 20, inviting a group of respected telecom industry leaders to explore key trends shaping the future of digital infrastructure. Watko emphasized the growing significance of wireless spectrum as a critical resource for connectivity. He noted that wireless solutions, particularly fixed wireless access (FWA), are no longer niche technologies but mainstream alternatives that provide fast, reliable connectivity where fiber infrastructure is either delayed or unavailable. “Wireless connectivity, especially licensed spectrum, is now a well-accepted and predominant way to connect businesses, enterprises and end users,” he stated, adding that Tier 1 operators deploying FWA over licensed spectrum are driving this trend forward.
Watko highlighted that mmWave technology is playing an increasingly important role in enabling fixed wireless solutions, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. As demand for fast, reliable connectivity grows, mmWave networks are providing a critical alternative where traditional fiber deployment is delayed or impractical.
